Alice M. Rivlin today submitted her resignation as Vice Chair and as a member of the Board of Governors, effective July 16, 1999. Vice Chair Rivlin, who has been a member of the Board since June 24, 1996, submitted her letter of resignation to President Clinton today. In view of her impending departure from the Board, Vice Chair Rivlin will not attend the June 29-30 meeting of the Federal Open Market Committee. Before becoming a member of the Board, Vice Chair Rivlin served as Director of the White House Office of Management and Budget and was Hirst Professor of Public Policy at George Mason University. Dr. Rivlin also was the founding Director of the Congressional Budget Office. She will be joining the Brookings Institution. Attached is a copy of her letter of resignation.
