AI Use Case Inventory
For the purposes of this inventory, an AI use case refers to the specific scenario in which AI is designed, developed, procured, or used to advance the execution of agencies' missions and their delivery of programs and services, enhance decision making, or provide the public with a particular benefit.
Section 1. Use Case Identifiers
Section 1 contains attributes of each use case including the unique agency ID, agency point of contact, use case name, description, and outputs. Additional attributes describe the stage of development, intended purpose and expected benefits of the use case. Rights and safety impacting use cases will be designated in this section.
Section 2. Use Case Summary
Section 2 contains specific date attributes for the project stage- initiated, acquisition and/or development, implementation, retirement- to be completed in accordance with the development stage selected in section 1. Applicable contracting/procurement information is documented. Special circumstances such as High Impact Service Providers, Quality Act and Personally Identifiable Information privacy risks are indicated in this section.
Section 3. Data and Code
Section 3 indicates whether the data used for the AI model is owned, documented, and distributable by the agency. Agencies report whether the AI model uses demographic variables and/or custom developed code. If the code used is open source, the agency should provide a link in the public inventory.
Section 4. Enablement and Infrastructure
Section 4 contains information about the agency infrastructure related to enabling AI development including hosting systems that are authorized to operate. A system name is provided for each use case. Multiple choice responses provide information on timing and communication related to the agency’s process for use case intake and provisioning technology resources.
Section 5. Risk Management
Section 5 details risk assessment and risk management practices related to rights and safety impacting use cases. The Board did not report any rights or safety impacting use cases; thus, this section is not completed.
