A scatter plot of firms shows firm-level investment growth in percent over the year ending in 2019Q1 on the y-axis, and firm-level trade policy uncertainty (TPU) over the same year on the x-axis. Firm investment growth is winsorized to range between about -60 and 160 percent. The TPU measure is normalized to range from 0 to 100 depending on the intensity of TPU over the year. The dots in the plot are proportional to firm size. The majority of dots are concentrated between a TPU value of between 0 and 20, while the highest density of firm investment growth ranges from -50 to 50 percent. A negative relationship between firm investment and TPU is evident in the scatter. This observation is emphasized by a line of fit showing a clear downward trend from left to right. There is an additional plot annotation showing an estimated regression of investment growth on TPU and a set of controls (not specified here). The regression equation is INVESTMENT GROWTH = -0.18 x TPU + CONTROLS + Ɛ(i).
